Custom Earplug Consultation

£30 for Custom Earplug Consultation

Plus the cost of chosen Custom Earplugs or In-Ear-Monitors, prices starting from £100

The appointment will explore your requirements by discussing what you need your earplugs for.

To create your custom earplugs, a soft medical‑grade material is gently placed into your ear canal to take an accurate impression. This process is:

  • Safe

  • Comfortable

  • Quick (usually 5–10 minutes per ear)

These impressions form the exact shape of your ear canal, ensuring a perfect fit.

You’ll be guided through the available options, which may include:

  • Sleep plugs

  • Swim plugs

  • Musician’s filtered earplugs

  • Noise protection plugs

  • Motorcyclist plugs

  • In‑ear monitors

We will discuss colours, filters, materials and any additional features to ensure the most suitable product is provided.

Your impressions will be sent to a specialist laboratory where your earplugs are custom‑made. These will be returned to Ear Eden, where I will check the product and post them out to you.

You will receive written guidance on:

  • Cleaning and maintaining your earplugs

  • When to replace them

  • How to use them safely and effectively

Your custom earplugs will provide long‑lasting comfort, protection and performance tailored specifically to your ears.

Prior to your Custom Earplug Consultation

If you suspect you have earwax, please use Earol as instructed above before your Custom Earplug Consultation. If wax prevents impressions from being taken, the appointment will be converted to wax removal and an additional £45 will be charged. Impressions may then be taken on a separate day.

If Earol has not been used and wax is blocking the ears, the appointment will be charged at £30, and a separate wax removal appointment (£75) will be required.

Impressions of the ear can be taken on the same day as wax removal, provided there is no trauma or discomfort within the ear canal.

What to expect at your appointment

A Warm Welcome and Clinical History

Your appointment will begin with a brief discussion about your symptoms, medical history and any previous ear conditions. This helps me choose the safest and most appropriate approach for your needs, whether you’re here for microsuction, an ear health check or a custom earplug consultation. Your appointment is designed to be calm, comfortable and empowering, giving you complete clarity about your ear health.

A Thorough Examination of the Ear

Using a high‑definition otoscope, I’ll carefully examine your ear canal and eardrum, checking for wax, infection or anything that might affect treatment. You can see the images on screen if you’d like, most people find this both fascinating and reassuring. I’ll also take a clear video‑otoscopy image of your ear canal and eardrum (if visible). Every procedure aligns with current National Clinical Guidelines.

Post‑Procedure Check

Once the procedure has been completed, I will re‑examine the ear to ensure everything looks healthy. Another image of your ear canal and eardrum will be taken after the procedure is complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are custom earplugs?

Custom earplugs are individually moulded to the exact shape of your ear canal, providing superior comfort, protection and performance compared to standard plugs.

Do you check my ears before taking impressions?

Yes. I always carry out an otoscopy to ensure your ear canals are clear and safe. If wax is present, removal may be recommended first.

Does taking impressions hurt?

No. A soft medical‑grade material is gently placed into the ear canal. It feels unusual but not painful, and takes around 5–10 minutes per ear.

What types of custom earplugs can I get?

Options include sleep plugs, swim plugs, musician’s filtered plugs, noise protection, motorcyclist plugs, and custom moulds for hearing aids or in‑ear monitors.

How long do custom earplugs last?

Most last 3–5 years depending on use, ear growth/changes, and how well they’re cared for.

How long does it take to receive my earplugs?

Manufacturing typically takes 1–3 weeks. You’ll return for a fitting to ensure they’re perfect.

Can I choose colours or filters?

Yes. You can select colours, materials and filter strengths depending on your needs.

Can I bring someone with me?

Absolutely. Many clients feel more comfortable with a friend or family member present.

Is there anything I should avoid before my appointment?

Avoid inserting cotton buds, ear candles, or any objects into your ears.

What if you find something abnormal?

If I see anything that requires medical attention, I’ll explain it clearly and advise you on the most appropriate next steps, including GP or ENT referral if needed.
